Pastoral Care Ministry

Pastoral Care at St. Luke’s is provided by an active Pastoral Care ministry group, as well as by the clergy.

Many people have been quietly providing pastoral care for many years, but after the annual meeting in 2009, a more intentional approach was begun. Referrals are made to a pastoral care coordinator and people who have expressed a desire to participate are contacted to take turns at sending a card, making a phone call or providing a meal. The current pastoral care coordinator is Barbara Black.

As well, Rev. Barbara Clarke visits people in need such as before surgery or when a visit is desired. Eucharistic visitors are also available to bring Holy Communion to people unable to be present in church.

The people of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Wilton, Maine, acknowledge that the land our building of worship occupies may well have been ground that the Amessoukanti people inhabited and called home for centuries. We sincerely regret the turmoil and pain caused by the displacement of the Indigenous people from their homeland and the ongoing inequality, disrespect, and violence they endure. We hope to help restore our relationship with the Indigenous people by listening to and learning from them and by respecting their traditions, religions, relationship to the land and languages. Furthermore, we join the diocesan Committee on Indian Relations in recognizing the sovereignty of the Wabanaki people of Maine over their lands, something which all federally recognized Indian tribes have.
